Hope & Renewal Marriage Intensive Experience
H O P E
Healing Our Painful Experiences
Many times, painful experiences in our past, whether recent past or childhood create a barrier to hope and renewal. When we talk about healing during a Hope and Renewal Marriage Intensive we are not necessarily talking about total healing, but rather a measure of healing in which the impact of these painful experiences is lessened or diminished. Healing doesn’t necessarily suggest that these experiences will not affect our going forward; however, these experiences can provide great opportunities for growth and better understanding of ourselves and our spouse.

The Intensive includes individual sessions with a licensed clinical professional counselor devoted to processing painful experiences and/or unwanted behaviors. These sessions integrate faith, prayer and Scripture with EMDR, an evidence-based trauma therapy, also shown effective in addressing addictions.
A focused couple session provides opportunity for sharing and reflecting upon insights gained through these individual processing sessions.
Hope and Renewal Intensives are uniquely designed for each couple, dependent upon individual needs, level of trauma, and life season. Sessions provide guided instruction, experiential processes, and open interaction centered around these seven key elements of a healthy Christ-centered marriage:The Intensive includes individual sessions with a licensed clinical professional counselor devoted to processing painful experiences and/or unwanted behaviors. 7 Key Elements of a Healthy Christ-centered Marriage
- Effective Communication—utilizing personal strengths and toning emotional muscle to create an atmosphere in which each person feels heard and understood.
- Healthy Conflict Resolution—exploring biblical peacemaking, understanding conflict styles, practicing fair fighting rules, and developing non-confrontational strategies for addressing issues.
- Appropriate Boundaries—maintaining safety and moving toward healthy interdependence.
- Increased Empathy –gaining greater sense of the other person’s stories and emotions.
- Multi-faceted Intimacy—broadening understanding of intimacy and encouraging a healthy and meaningful view of oneness.
- Couple Discipleship—identifying and implementing spiritual gifts while growing together in relationship with God
- Unified Stewardship—addressing financial concerns from an abundance perspective rather than a scarcity mentality.
Couples may choose areas for specific focus, with understanding that Hope and Renewal will develop, customize, and implement a balanced program for improving overall marriage health.
“. . . marathon couples counseling sessions are just what’s needed to get to the heart of what’s going on. The couple is able to focus intensely on their issues, without the constant interruption of everyday life.”
